Nicolas Cage finally gets his Superman shot from Teen Titans

If you doubted his fanboy credentials, the actor named his son Kal-El (Clark's Kryptonian birthname), once owned a rare issue of Superman's 1938 comic debut - though sold it for $2.1 million (£1.5 million). Though, it's not in a live-action movie.

Say what you will of the cartoon series, Teen Titans Go!, which aired April 23, 2013 on Cartoon Network as part of the DC Nation block and is now airing its fourth season. Appearing alongside regular cast members Scott Menville, Hynden Walch, Khary Payton, Tara Strong, and Greg Cipes, he'll be joined in the Justice League by Halsey as Wonder Woman and Lil Yachty as Green Lantern. Cage nearly took on the role of Superman for director Tim Burton in the Kevin Smith-scripted Superman Lives, but production troubles prevented the film from ever getting off the ground. Speaking to USA Today, the film's executive producer Sam Register described the "great responsibility" the team felt when filling out their cameo cast. To the Movies will follow the Teen Titans as they pursue their showbiz dreams, trying to convince a popular movie director to give them a shot on the big screen.

Now it's announced Nicolas Cage will voice Superman in the upcoming Teen Titans Go! The film hits theaters July 27.

The latest Teen Titans GO! film, for instance, is the ideal opportunity to fulfill the actor's lifelong dream, and he was sure to leap (tall buildings in a single bound) at the opportunity. With some madcap ideas and a few musical numbers ready to bust out, the Titans head to Tinsel Town to persuade a hotshot director (Kristen) to help. But when the group is radically misdirected by a serious super villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry.

The film is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Peter Rida Michail, from a screenplay by Michael Jelenic and Horvath, based on characters from DC. Pictures, a Warner Bros.
