Malcolm Butler will leave Patriots for $61M deal with Titans

The news suggests Patricia, the only defensive coordinator Butler has played for in the National Football League, still thinks highly of the former undrafted free agent and Super Bowl XLIX hero despite Butler's benching in Super Bowl LII.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport says the Titans are signing Butler on a 5-year contract worth more than $61 million with more than $30 million guaranteed.

This battle, which reportedly included the Saints, all took place after Butler sat out his final game in New England for an unspecified reason. He rose to unexpected fame with his Super Bowl interception, and the team showed its faith in him the following season, in 2015, by elevating him to the No. 1 spot on the depth chart to replace departed free agent Darrelle Revis.

After a few hours of Tennessee Titans fans beginning to lose their collective minds and doubting the front office, GM Jon Robinson made his first move of the offseason.

Butler's Patriots career ended on a odd, disappointing note as Bill Belichick benched him for all defensive snaps in Super Bowl LII. Despite the Lions appearing to be in the finals of the Butler sweepstakes, the rising cornerback is signing with the Titans instead. He played the entire 2017 season on a $3.91 million contract and joins a group of young and talented defensive backs in Tennessee.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Butler turned 28 on March 2. After a second round of negotiations with the remaining teams, Butler opted for the Titans, where he will play for former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel, who became the head coach in Nashville this winter.
