India release special postal cover on British physicist Stephen Hawking

The family of Professor Stephen Hawking, who died last week aged 76, have announced that his funeral will be held in Cambridge on Easter Saturday.

Stephen Hawking's ashes will be interred in Westminster Abbey near the grave of Sir Isaac Newton.

Hall said it is "entirely fitting" that Hawking's remains will be buried in Westminster "near those of distinguished fellow scientists".

Legendary British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking will receive a private funeral at a church in Cambridge and the final resting place for his ashes will be next to fellow scientists Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin at Westminster Abbey here, his family said on Tuesday.

The service will be held in the prestigious institution's Great St Mary's church, a short distance from Gonville and Caius College, where where he worked at unlocking the secrets of the universe for more than 52 years.

Hawking did his graduate work at Cambridge and was based at the university for decades thereafter.

'Charles Darwin was buried beside Isaac Newton in 1882. Dr. John Hall said that it is vital for science and religion to work together to answer the questions about the mysteries of life and the universe. "For this reason, we have chose to hold his funeral in the city that he loved so much and which loved him", they added.

Hawking's death last week was met with tributes from around the world.

Robert, Lucy and Tim had to live their entire lives with the fear of "getting caught in another chapter of Stephen Hawking's story".

Since his death, several thousand people have flocked to Gonville & Caius to sign a book of condolence with heartfelt messages.

Diagnosed with motor neurone disease at the age of 21, Hawking was best known amongst his friends and colleagues for his sense of humour, frequently driving wildly along the streets of Cambridge in his wheelchair or taking it for a spin on the dancefloor at college parties.
