Fitbit launches its first fitness tracker for children

Do you plan on picking up either one of Fitbit's new devices?

Fitbit is taking another stab at the smartwatch market after its first attempt with the Ionic fell short of expectations.

The Fitbit Versa is the fitness tracking brand's most recent attempt at a "smartwatch for all", with a modern design and affordable price tag, as well as a few new software tricks created to tempt users away from the Apple Watch.

We knew it was coming, and now it's official: Fitbit has announced the Versa, its "mass appeal" smartwatch, which is aimed at, well, everyone. The Versa is extremely slim and, according to Fitbit, it's the company's lightest metal smartwatch in the USA market.

The Versa looks the part, and the "more than four day" battery life is better than what Apple, Samsung or the Android competition can muster. It actually resembles an Apple Watch.

The big tradeoff with the Versa is that, unlike the more expensive Fitbit Ionic and Apple Watch Series 3, among other more serious fitness trackers, it doesn't have built-in Global Positioning System. This is probably going to be turn off for serious athletes, but Fitbit is branding this for the masses. The software also gained the ability to let users respond to messages right from the watch with canned replies, though the feature only works for users with Android phones, not Apple (aapl) iPhones.

In addition to that limitation on iPhone users, the Versa and the revamped Fitbit software won't fix all of the problems that held the Ionic back.

There's really nothing here users won't get from your standard tracking apps, of course, but Fitbit's hope is that incorporating it into the sleep and health data the company is already tracking could unlock some insight for women about how their menstrual cycle impacts their overall health. The Versa is available to preorder at Fitbit's store and select online retailers from today. The peach variant which also comes with a rose gold aluminum case will cost you Rs 21,999.

Fitbit's previous smartwatch - the Ionic - felt much bigger and clunkier than the Apple Watch Series 3.

The Fitbit Ace, meanwhile, is the first Fitbit device for kids aged eight and up. It automatically tracks steps, active minutes, and sleep, has an estimated five-day battery life, and is safe to wear in the shower. The Ace gives kids push notifications that encourages them to get up and be active. They'll get rewards in the form of badges for reaching step goals, and they'll even be able to challenge family members to contests with a future update. It will also help remind them to move if they are inactive for too long and help parents track activity and sleep patterns which may be adversely affecting their child's well-being. Parents can add to the ace to a family account on their own mobile device to track their kids' activity.

The company unveiled the Fitbit Versa sports watch, the Fitbit Ace band for kids, and Fitbit OS 2.0.

The Ace can be pre-ordered beginning today, and it will retail for $99.95. Namely, it comes in two colors: Electric Blue and Power Purple.
