Ex WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton is asking users to delete Facebook

Acton's tweet of #DeleteFacebook does not come at a good time for the company, and will further raise questions about the social network and its policies. The revelations about the Facebook's Cambridge Analytica scandal have led to 10% slip in Facebook's stock, leaving the online social media and social networking service company users agitated about the privacy violation. After both co-founders made billions by cutting a deal with Zuckerberg's Facebook in 2014, Acton left the company in September a year ago while Jan Koum continues to lead the charge.

Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $US19 billion in February 2014.

His tweet - which reached over 21,000 of his followers - comes in the wake of a movement to delete the popular social media platform after it was reported that Cambridge Analytica, the data firm backed by Donald Trump supporter Robert Mercer and once steered by former Trump advisor Steve Bannon, obtained personal information from 50 million Facebook users without permission during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Now, WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton has tweeted saying it is time to Delete Facebook. Koum remains with the company, but Acton left WhatsApp in 2017 to start his own nonprofit foundation "focused at the intersection of nonprofit, technology and communications". Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook empire is now suffering after news broke out in the media that the privately held company have acquired private user data of 50 million users on Facebook through series of leaks.

It added that Christopher Wylie, a Canadian data analytics expert who worked with Kogan and who revealed the data leak to media, had declined to cooperate with the audit. The issue has been giving sleepless nights to everyone at Facebook, including the company CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This is not the first time that a former Facebook executive has showed discomfort after leaving the company. WhatsApp co-founder is the latest voice to be in support of this hashtag.
