Delhi Sealing: Traders protest, down shutters in various markets

AAP sources said the coming together of the two parties was to find a solution to the problems faced by traders, who are considered supporters of the BJP generally.

The sealing drive, which started in December 2017 on orders of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee, has affected markets across the city.

The sealings, being conducted under the monitor of a court-appointed committee, discontinued after 2012, when the state government proposed the Delhi Master Plan 2021, which allowed commercial establishments to run simultaneously in residential areas.

The deputy chief minister said it was decided that both AAP and the Congress would raise the matter in Parliament.

"According to the party, Tiwari, who is now on a state visit overseas, had a teleconference discussion with senior Delhi BJP office bearers and trader leaders on the sealing issue". The CM requests both the Congress and the BJP to come with us.

Taking on the BJP for not attending the meeting, Sisodia said that the ruling party at Centre was not serious and doing politics over the sealing.

In solidarity with Prakash, IAS officers as well as Civil Services officers of Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands have not been attending meetings with AAP ministers, and only maintaining written communication with them.

While Kejriwal "missed" BJP in the meeting, AAP and Congress attacked BJP for missing an opportunity to "speak for the traders". VK Jain has resigned from his position after days after he was questioned by Delhi police in relations to the allegations assault with Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash. "Because it is not being done now, there is chaos", Maken said.

The court held the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the state government and Centre responsible for the non-implementation of the sealing drive despite being ordered back in 2006.

Replying to Mr. Gandhi's tweet, Mr. Kejriwal said: "I urge u to kindly raise sealing issue strongly in current session of Parliament and force BJP to take all steps necessary to stop sealing n open sealed shops".

Meanwhile, traders protested in various markets across the city today as part of a day-long bandh called by an industry body against the drive. This after the Delhi Chief Minister sent out invites to members of all parties - including Congress'Ajay Maken and BJP's Manoj Tiwari.
