Canada wins men's and women's curling junior world championships

In the same session, Switzerland beat United States by 7-4 to win the bronze medals. The Canada boys really played well.

"It just wasn't our best". I'm really glad that they've done that and that we came out here and proved ourselves as a team.

However, the 19-year-old said it was a tournament he was hoping to return to before he hits the age limit of 22.

"It happens and we're just pleased that we've got that silver medal". The Scots fought back after this and forced the game into an extra end with a single point steal in the tenth to level the score at 5-5.

After the interval, things became tense for Whyte's rink and their fans. "Whenever they had the hammer we wanted to keep them close to one".

There were no points in the eighth, but after both skips made mistakes, Whyte scored a two to make it 5-4 going into the 10th end. They made some good shots and made us really work for it.

"It's an unbelievable feeling. I can't believe I'm standing here".

Tardi said the sixth end, in which they erased an early 2-1 deficit, boosted the team's confidence. "They made a really good comeback - good on them". "I'm just over the moon right now".

Canada ripped up the form book in the men and women's junior finals of the world junior curling championships at Curl Aberdeen on Saturday.

The Canadian women jumped on the Chinese rink with two points in the first end and three more in the third for a 5-1 lead.

Sweden levelled in the fourth, but a double take-out made it 5-2 Canada at the halfway point.

With the last stone of that extra end, Canada's skip Tardi's draw was good enough to score the one point that gave his team the win and the world title.

"We knew that we didn't have anything to lose because we were playing the reigning world champions, so I think that all the pressure would have been on them", said Jones. "It's the best game I've ever seen them curl, probably the best game I've ever seen curled by a junior women's team - ever". They've been working so hard all season.

"It's a goal to force them to one and we got the end-goal that we wanted". But, we're really proud of what we've done this week.

She added: "I think we were a bit unlucky and the Canadian skip (Kaitlyn Jones) played really well today".
