Apple Announces Education-Themed Event on March 27 in Chicago

Invitations for the event were sent out this morning with the tagline: "Let's take a field trip".

Perhaps that'll mean some new low-end MacBook laptops (rumors still circulate that it plans to revamp the MacBook Air), or new iPads, which Apple seems convinced that students can use instead of laptops.

As far as what else we know about the Apple education event at this point, it's likely that it has to do with increased support of Apple products for educational purposes.

On the heels of opening up registration for its annual WWDC event, Apple will hold an education-focused event on March 27 that will highlight "creative new ideas for teachers and students", multiple reports indicate. What could those be? Apple is also working on a cheaper MacBook Air which again targets towards schools. In Beta 2, some clever sleuths found a new development framework called ClassKit for making educational apps. For quite some time, Apple has been building strong relationships with schools and universities - a strategy from which it's easy to see the payoff considering how prevalent Apple gear is on campus. Gossip says Apple might be about to reveal a new 9.7-inch iPad for a special education price of $259. Rumors have been circulating about a new Apple Pencil with features like magnetic attachment, interchangeable nibs with different sensors, and even the ability to work on non-touch surfaces. Most recently, it expanded its coding education program and invested in girls' education.
