After Drabu says K-issue not political, angry PDP raps him

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday removed the Finance Minister, Haseeb A Drabu from the cabinet ministers over his recent remarks wherein he had stated that Kashmir is not a political issue.

PDP sources told IBNS that an order, which reads that Drabu was suspended from the Council of Ministers after he made a statement on Kashmir, has been issued.

Drabu has been in the eye of a storm after his remark at a function in Delhi that Kashmir "isn't a political issue".

"If PDP thinks that Kashmir is not a "political issue" but is according to them a "social issue", the very basis of the politics of PDP and that of its founder Late Mufti Sahab comes into question. We are trying to find our own space and going through a process which other countries are also going through".

The PDP's chief spokesperson Rafi Ahmad Mir warned of action against Drabu if he did not retract his statement. "We have relentlessly been pursuing its resolution through reconciliation and dialogue, both at internal and external levels", PDP vice president Sartaj Madni said.

Party vice-president Madni also advised all senior leaders of the party to be careful while issuing statements and making observations on the basic political philosophy and core agenda of the party.

The Opposition National Conference criticised Drabu's comments and asked the ruling party to explain his statements, Rising Kashmir reported.

Speaking at an event themed "Kashmir: the way forward", Drabu asked the people to "introspect" over the nature and origins of the situation in the state and how it can be resolved.

Yesterday in his statement he said that Kashmir "isn't a political one" but a society with "social issues" after this party had chose to drop him.
