Starbucks's Visa Credit Card Serves Up Major Rewards

The new credit card is an expansion of the ongoing relationship between the two companies.

Instant gold status: Cardmembers will automatically receive Gold Status within the Starbucks Rewards program.

The card allows customers to earn stars in and out of Starbucks' 8,000-plus locations, according to a company press release.

Starbucks, in partnership with Chase, announced the new Starbucks Rewards Visa Card - a co-brand credit card that is integrated with the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program. "The Starbucks Rewards Visa Card lets them earn Stars on every purchase they make so their next cup is that much more rewarding".

On top of a $49 annual fee, cardholders will automatically become members of the Starbucks Rewards program and receive a Gold Status as well as some other exclusive perks, including discounts and the ability to order ahead. To apply for the Starbucks Rewards Visa credit card, visit In something that will really excite coffee nerds, Starbucks baristas will also curate food and beverage rewards for cardholders. Mobile payment in the USA has grown to more than 30 percent of total tender for Starbucks.

Cardmembers will receive a physical card seven to 10 days after an application is approved; and a digital card will be immediately loaded into the Starbucks mobile app. A second co-branded product, the Starbucks Rewards™ Visa® Prepaid Card will launch later this year.

For new cardmembers, you'll get 2,500 Stars after spending $500 on purchases in the first three months after account opening-which is easily doable if you get something like a Venti coffee and one of those breakfast sandwiches every weekday, plus a few afternoon java pick-me-ups in between.

Cardholders will also get a bonus 250 stars the first time they use the Visa card to load their Starbucks Card through the mobile app.
