Trump's White House might ban staff from using personal mobile phones

Officials say cybersecurity concerns spurred the proposal to ban use of personal phones at work.

At least five Trump administration officials, who spoke anonymously because the ban isn't final, said employees were anxious that the rule would block them from communicating with family and friends, Bloomberg reported on Monday.

The White House may ban its employees from using personal mobile phones while at work, raising concerns among staff that they'll be cut off from family and friends, according to five administration officials.

The report said the policy under consideration is not because of President Donald Trump's concerns of administration officials leaking sensitive information to the press.

Back then, White House's tech support department concluded that the Kelly's phone had been hacked. Trump is wont to send tweets from his personal Android phone, a habit that has sparked concern throughout his year-long presidency.

Journalist James Harrigan pointed out that Trump's use of a personal mobile device was a more obvious threat than that of any of the staff.

Bloomberg points out information from a source saying that the ban would be in place for cyber security reasons because personal devices are not as secure as White House-issued devices. However, the news service said White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, whose personal phone was found to be compromised by hackers earlier this year, was at the front of the effort to impose a ban.

Should the Trump White House decide to go through with the ban, staff will have to start paying careful attention to how they communicate.

Another effect of this ban would be that the use of government-issued phones would make any call made on such devices archived as public records.

The nature of the leaks in the Trump White House have been a deviation from the norm.
