Today Supreme Court to hear plea against Most Controversial' Padmavati'

Supreme Court has again dismissed Manohar Lal Sharma's plea to seek the stay on the release of the controversial movie Padmavati.

"Padmavati" has been opposed by several top politicians who say that the film can not be allowed to "distort history" and offend the sentiments of Hindu groups. It is tantamount to pre-judging it, the court noted. "It'll prejudice the decision-making of CBFC", the bench said while dismissing the PIL filed by ML Sharma, who had in the past too filed a similar petition against Padmavati.

It has also asked why the BJP chief Ministers have banned the movie even before its clearance from the CBFC board, stating "When matter is pending for the CBFC's consideration, how can persons holding public offices comment on whether CBFC should issue certificate or not?"

It is still unclear when the film, earlier scheduled to be released on December 1, will be released.

Rajput groups and politicians have accused Bhansali of distorting history in his portrayal of the Rajput queen.

Sharma is in quest of direction to delete certain objectionable scenes and Content from the movie.

However, when the Supreme Court took up the case on Tuesday it refused to stall the release of the film outside India.

It was hearing the petition filed by Siddharajsinh M Chudasama and 11 others, which also sought setting up of a committee of eminent historians to check the veracity of the script to prevent any inaccuracy in the portrayal of Rani Padmavati.
